Dog and Company provides behavior consulting and education for pet owners, educational institutions, shelters and private companies. It is owned and operated by Crista Coppola PhD, CAAB. Dr. Coppola obtained her PhD from Colorado State University under the guidance of Temple Grandin PhD. Her Dissertation work focused on improving adoption success of shelter dogs while reducing their stress level. Dr. Coppola received her MS in Animal Sciences from the University of Arizona and her BS in Zoology from North Carolina State University. After receiving her PhD she completed a 2 year fellowship at the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in New York City, New York. Following her fellowship she was asked to continue her work at the ASPCA as their Lifeline Behaviorist. Most recently Dr. Coppola has returned home to the Southwest to offer her services to private pet owners. She specializes in the treatment of behavior problems in dogs, cats and horses. Dr. Coppola lives in Northwest Tucson with her husband, three dogs (all Illinois shelter alumni); four cats, including her polydactyl rescue cat from Manhattan; and two horses.

Dr. Coppola’s love for animals was evident from a very young age. Her family members often remarked on her connection with animals and her devotion to their well-being. Her interest in applied animal behavior however did not fully develop until she experienced it first hand with her beloved companion Jessie. Many of Dr. Coppola’s early experiences come from living with her Doberman PinscherX, whom she had for 13 years. Jessie recently passed away in January 2006 but she will never be replaced in Crista’s heart as her soulmate. You can read more about Dr. Coppola and Jessie in Dog Fancy Sept 2007. |
